An Indian politician Baba Siddique, 66, was shot and killed in Mumbai, India’s business capital. According to local reports, gunmen attacked him near his son’s office. His son is also a politician. Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder.
Siddique, was once a local minister, was an important figure in Maharashtra politics. The state is due to hold elections next month.
Earlier this year Siddique Left Congress India’s main opposition party and joined the National Congress party (NCP), a regional party allied with the ruling BJP.
Ajit Pawar, The deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a member of Siddique’s party, expressed shock over the “Cowardly attack.” Siddique was famous for hosting extravagant parties and had close connections with Bollywood stars. The shooting took place during a major Hindu Festival, despite tight security in the city. opposition parties have criticized the government for failing to prevent the attack. The state government has promised a full investigation.
Although two Suspects are in custody, the reason behind the killing is still unclear. Police are now searching for a third suspect. Some Media outlets reported that the arrested Suspects claimed ties to a gang lead by notorious criminal Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently in prison for several murders, including the 2022 Killing of rapper Sidhu Moosewala.
Just weeks before the shooting, Siddique’s security was increased due to death threats.
