A strong winter storm named Blair is set to hit the central and eastern United States this weekend. The storm is expected to bring heavy snow, ice, and very cold temperatures, affecting up to 250 million people across 40 states.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for parts of Kansas and Missouri, including the Kansas City area. This warning is in effect from 3 a.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday. In these areas, snow and sleet could accumulate between 8 and 15 inches, with wind gusts up to 40 mph.

The storm is expected to start on Saturday in the northern and central Rocky Mountains and the Plains. By Sunday, it will move to the mid-Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes states. Cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh may see snowfall by Monday, with 6 to 12 inches of snow possible in affected areas.

This storm is part of an Arctic Outbreak, where cold air from the Arctic moves south due to changes in the polar vortex and high pressure over Greenland. This could lead to below-average temperatures in many regions, with some places experiencing lows around 0°F. The cold air may also bring snow and ice to Gulf Coast states, causing significant disruptions.

People in the affected areas should prepare for dangerous travel conditions, possible power outages, and disruptions to daily life. It’s important to stay updated with local weather reports and follow any guidance from authorities to stay safe during the storm.
