On February 5, 2025, a Japan Airlines Boeing 787 collided with a parked Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The incident occurred at approximately 10:17 a.m. local time, as the Japan Airlines flight was taxiing for deicing procedures. Its right wing struck the tail of Delta Flight 1921, which was scheduled to depart for Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among passengers or crew members from either aircraft. Passengers were safely deplaned and returned to the terminal. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noted that the collision occurred in an area not under direct air traffic control. As a precaution, some flights were temporarily halted, but overall airport operations experienced minimal disruption.

This incident follows a recent aviation accident in January 2024, when a Japan Airlines Airbus A350 collided with a Japan Coast Guard Dash 8 on the runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. That collision resulted in the deaths of five crew members and injuries to 17 others.

The FAA has initiated an investigation into the Seattle collision to determine the cause and assess any necessary safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
