The Dallas Mavericks started their preseason games last Monday by playing against the Memphis Grizzlies. This was the first of four preseason games before the regular season begins.

Even though they lost to the grizzlies, there were many good things to note from the game.  One highlight was Jazian Gortman,  who played very well and showed that the team has a strong group of players in training camp.

Mavericks also played their second preseason game against the Utah jazz a few days later, where Klay Thompson made his debut with the team. Thompson did a great job in the short time he was on the court and impressed many fans with his strong Defense. He often had to defend bigger players but managed to disrupt their place effectively.

Thompson is really happy to be a maverick. He joined the Team during the off season and has shared his excitement about it.  Many fans were surprised when he decided to leave the Golden State Warriors,  where he had played for 12 years. In a recent YouTube video,  Klay Thompson talked about how tough his last two Seasons were with the Warriors. He said, “the last two years were  so tough for me.  I let so much other crap get into my head and I forgot why I really play the game.”

Thompson encouraged others not to let other people’s expectations affect how they play. Last season, he averaged nearly 18 points per game with 39%  shooting from three-point range.  While these stats are impressive for many players,  some fans saw it as a disappointing year for Klay Thompson.

During his time with the Warriors,Thompson faced criticism from fans for taking bad shots and not playing good Defense. In Dallas,  he might take more shots,  but he will also have help from star players like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving,  which  take some pressure off him.

Since joining The Mavericks, Klay Thompson has shown how excited he is to be part of a team that has a chance to win a championship. Fans can see that he loves the game again,  and he may have his best season since he hurt his Achilles In November 2020.  He is likely to get many open shots this season,  which he hasn’t had since Kevin Durant  played with the Warriors in 2019.

Thompson is relieved to leave the pressure of the warriors behind and feels welcomed in Dallas. Under  head coach  Jason Kidd, he will be encouraged to play his own style of basketball, which makes things easier for him as he plays at 34 years old.
