Recent reports suggest the one of Netflix’s most popular show ‘Squid Game’ is set to return with its second season on December 26, 2024, In which seong gi-hun is re-entering the deadly competition as depicted in the trailer. The last season left the audience captivated and itching to know what would unfold next.
This time Seong gi-hun is forced to abandon his distinctive red hair to represent change within himself and start a new goal, one that would be to demolish these vicious games as he somehow feels guilty for being the only one alive this time around, transforming his character in the process.
In the sequel, squid game creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk vouches for a “heavier, darker” tone, and describes the sequel as a game with more focus on character backstories and the flaws in capitalism and debt. Explaining how he was able to finish the ‘Squid Game’ script in less than six months, he has also mentioned plans for a third season indicating that the overall arc of the story is clear and well-structured avoiding meaningless plot holes.
The upcoming show also displays the return of Wi ha-Jun and Lee byung-hun, growing the roster with many complex characters to help keep the narrative engaging, one of the most anticipated characters being the transgender character who is supposed to be one of the main characters as well.
