Donald Trump has chosen Pete Hegseth, a familiar face from Fox News and a decorated Army veteran, to serve as his new Secretary of Defense. Hegseth has extensive military experience, having served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he has been a strong advocate for veterans and military issues throughout his career.
Trump praised Hegseth in a public statement, calling him a “warrior for the troops and for the country.” Trump highlighted Hegseth’s dedication to America and his “America First” perspective, expressing confidence that Hegseth will reinforce the nation’s defense and strengthen its military presence.
Hegseth has not only served his country on the battlefield but has also been an informal adviser to Trump for years, even during times when Trump was not in office. Despite his influence, Hegseth was passed over for formal roles in Trump’s previous administration. However, with his new selection, Hegseth is set to step into a significant leadership position within Trump’s team, reflecting the president-elect’s focus on the media’s role in reaching Americans.
In addition to Hegseth’s appointment, there were earlier speculations that Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida might be considered for the defense secretary role. Trump has instead chosen Waltz to serve as his national security adviser, a role critical to shaping America’s defense strategies alongside Hegseth.
